How to use ladders?

According to a study, greater than 25 percent of accidents involving falls from high places are due to stairs. This often leads to broken limbs, bruises and, sometimes, even more serious. The worst part is that it could be quickly avoided if the standard safety guidelines are followed.

  • Be sure to not place the ladder on uneven ground.
  • Lay the ladder down flat onto the floor.
  • Use one end of the ladder against the wall.
  • Take the opposite part of the ladder upwards and then rest it on the walls.
  • Create the perfect angle with a ratio of 1:4. Divide the ladder in four. If the ladder is four meters long, its base should be one millimeter of the wall.
  • When the ladder seems too long, get another person to assist at the other end.

  • Do not use a step ladder as an extension ladder, by using it to support the wall.

Do not leave ladders in the open unattended particularly if you have children in the area. Think back to your childhood and how enjoyable it was to climb to the top of the ladder - and today's youngsters want to climb them too. Therefore, once you've finished working, you can put the ladder away or at the very least, place it on the floor.
